Johnny Castillo

Johnny

Bio: Johnny Castillo was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador and was raised for most of his teenage years in New York City. While attending John F. Kennedy High School in the Bronx, NY he developed a love for playing live music by performing in the H.S. show cases playing the acoustic guitar. After graduation, Johnny spent most of the coming years playing live music all over the tri-state area with the heavy metal acts such as Bloodcore, and Exhalted. He developed the taste for live sound reinforcement and studio work while playing live with different bands. After acquiring a degree in Accounting from the City University of New York, Johnny decided to leave that career and dedicate his time to playing live music, and learn about music production and audio engineering. He attended the Institute of Audio Research in Manhattan, NY where he formally learned all about audio, and its technical side. He proceeded to intern for various studios and post-houses such as: Hot Bed studios, 38 Greene Studios, and DMG productions. He decided to make music production a career and is currently working on his B.A. in Music Technology in Mercy College in White Plains, NY.

Johnny's plans for the future are to learn as much as possible from Mercy College and its instructors about music technology, and the industry. The music industry is in a great transition process with technology, and piracy as their main concerns, and it's a great time to be in it.

Production: Turned to Black

Artist: Jonathan LaFuentes

Listen!

Program Notes: The song Turned to Black is a sad, and powerful sounding song, which I think is mostly about the performance that will show you what, it's really about. The writer is Slava Morozov, music by Johnny Castillo, vocals by Jon Lafuentes, and drums by Ben Policello. This song is influenced by gothic/prog rock from the 70's and now.
