Materials You Will Need:

There will be weekly Listening Assignments. The audio tracks for these assignments will be provided in the form of better-quality MP3 files—that is, you do not need to purchase this music to study these songs.

That having been said, let us acknowledge that the provided music is copyrighted material. It has cost hundreds of dollars to purchase the albums from which I have compiled this discography. Even buying the individual songs online would cost well over $100. The point here is that this music has a high value.

I have provided the music online to enable you to complete the listening portion of the course work in our music labs or at home. Because the listening is part of a college course, this is permitted under "fair use" provsions of the U.S. Copyright Laws. You are to use the files solely for completing your course work.

To access the MP3 files, you will have to enter a password-protected website. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES are you to share this password with anyone not enrolled in the course! You are about to enter a field where your income will be dependent on consumer respect for copyrights; please afford the copyright-holders the same respect you would want in return.

You will want to purchase a couple of blank CD-R's to make audio CD's for any musical examples used in your papers and oral presentations that are not part of the course listening materials. You will submit this audio CD to your instructor along with your written work.
