Late Work Policy:

In past semesters I have been flexible in accepting late coursework from students. Lately, however, this has made it difficult for me to grade students' projects promptly, as grading all projects at the same time allows me to make a a fair comparison. Unfortunately, my waiting for late submissions to arrive is not fair to the students who complete the required work on time.

Effective immediately, I will be enforcing a strict late-work policy:

  • If an assignment is not completely and properly submitted during the class in which it is due, 10 points (or one letter grade) will be deducted.
  • If the assignment is not submitted by the end of the first class following the due date, 20 points (or two letter grades) will be deducted.
  • If the assignment is not submitted by the end of the second class following the due date, do not bother to complete it (unless a subsequent project is dependent on its completion). Instead, move on to the next project.

I will try to be flexible regarding unforseen medical issues. Please bring a doctor's note to document your illness and receive coursework credit without penalty. If you have a pre-exisiting reason for missing class (court appearance, doctor's appointment, work or travel conflict, etc.), I expect you to submit your project work in advance of the due date so that it may be submitted on time.

I am enforcing this policy not because I enjoy penalizing students, but simply to get student work submitted on time. A large part of college success is learning strategies for time-management and meeting your commitments. Please accept this responsibility.
