Hands-On Proficiency:

I give a hands-on examination to assess your proficiency (skill-level) in the course (as opposed to your knowledge-level). This is important because Music Technologists must master a number of skills to be able to create music and sound recordings. I will generally conduct a proficiency exam one-on-one with the student. Exams will be timed.

The exam will demonstrate a minimal level of competence in an area of the course that is familiar to the class. Prior to the exam, students will receive a checklist of tasks from which the exam will be drawn. Students are expected to practice these tasks before the exam date so they will be well prepared.

Some students find it difficult to handle the pressure of a timed solo examination. Nevertheless, it is important to simulate "real-world" conditions. There will be times you will be asked to perform under tight deadlines or other pressure, so it is important to know how well you handle pressure before you enter employment in the real world.
