Course Goals and Objectives:

Students who take MTEC-201 will:

  • Continue to acquire a strong foundation in the concepts, practices and perspectives relevant to audio engineering.
  • Develop sophisticated critical judgments, both in their written work and lab projects.
  • Further develop their ability to educate themselves in this discipline.

At the completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • Record an 8-track music project using Digidesign Pro Tools software.
  • Mix 8- to 24-track music projects using Pro Tools.
  • Apply equalization and other signal processing plug-ins via channel & bus inserts.
  • Apply reverb and delay via aux sends & aux inputs (effects loop).
  • Apply critical listening skills to evaluate music mixes using six criteria.
  • Use these criteria to improve their own mixing skills.
  • Document and back up their work following industry-standard practices.
  • Convert files between various audio formats, including WAV, AIF, and CD-Audio.
  • Demonstrate fundamental knowledge of acoustics necessary for the above tasks.
